PARENT TEACHER COUNCIL (PTC)

The purpose of the PTC is:

  • To foster and maintain cooperation and understanding between parents, students, administration, and teachers.

  • To provide a means whereby the parents can meet with representatives of the school to consider and act upon matters of common interest affecting the students and the school. (The School Committee and administration have the power to establish policies on academic and administrative matters.)

  • To provide support and service to the administrative and teaching staff in planning and coordinating extra-curricular activities of the school.

PTC meetings are held monthly, and all parents and staff are welcome to attend.

The PTC is committed to providing funds each year to the classroom teachers to purchase supplies and to fund transportation costs for class field trips. Other activities funded by the PTC may include special programs and purchasing equipment. Each PTC committee (except fundraising) is budgeted funds for their event or project.

All parents are encouraged to support the programs that make Eliot special by giving generously to the Keep Eliot Extraordinary campaign. Checks can be made out to the John Eliot PTC and sent to the PTC mailbox in the school office at any time. All PTC funds go directly into school projects, functions, supplies, and equipment.

VOLUNTEER OPPORTUNITIES AT JOHN ELIOT SCHOOL

All parents are members of the PTC, all parents are welcome at our meetings, and all parents are encouraged to participate in some way. There are plenty of opportunities for parent involvement at John Eliot. Volunteer forms are sent out in the spring and fall. You may volunteer anytime by calling one of the Co-presidents or Committee Chair. In some cases, the classroom teacher might solicit volunteers directly (e.g., Kindergarten) or through Room Parents.

Here are some areas where you might be able to help:

  • Contribute to the Keep Eliot Extraordinary campaign. By simply paying dues, you are adding to the income that will be channeled back into the school.

  • Skills. You may be surprised to find that a skill you possess may be useful to the PTC. After reviewing the list of committees, consider if you might have a skill to contribute.

  • Access to supplies, especially at discount prices. Supplies are especially needed at the Art-In and for general classroom use. Please contact the PTC if your place of employment is discarding any sort of materials, stationary supplies, or equipment. Paper is especially needed.

  • Food. Many of our events involve food. Any knowledge on how to acquire free or discount food would be useful.

  • Ideas. If you have an idea for an event or fund-raiser, come to the PTC meetings and express your ideas, or write to the PTC to have the idea discussed at the next meeting.

  • Serving on Committees/or as an officer. The committees and officers are described below:
