A Message From Eliot's Principal
Roderick MacNeal, Jr.
I am honored to receive the opportunity to serve as the Principal of Eliot Elementary School and to become a part of Needham Public Schools. It is my intent to continue the excellent reputation and commitment to education that has been established by Mrs. Wilcox and staff.
I come to you from the West Bloomfield School District, which is located in Michigan, where I recently served as the Principal of Ealy Elementary School.
My other administrator experience includes serving as the assistant principal of Brace-Lederle (Southfield Public Schools) where I helped transition the school from an elementary school to a K-8 program. In 2005, as a K-8 program, Brace-Lederle received the Michigan Blue Ribbon Award.
In 2007, I was transferred to Levey Middle School (6-8) as an assistant principal in order to assist with its reform.
My teaching experience includes pre-school, kindergarten, second, third, and fourth grade in Detroit and Southfield Public Schools.
My educational background includes a B.A. from the University of Michigan (Ann Arbor) where I majored in English Literature. I received my teacher certification and Masters in Elementary Education with an emphasis in Early Childhood Development from Wayne State University (Detroit). I also have an Educational Specialist Degree in General Administration and Supervision from Wayne State as well.
I am looking forward to a great year. I have met many of the Eliot staff and believe that we will continue creating a positive learning environment for all students. I have also met with members from Eliot's PTC and the School Council. It is my belief that parents are an integral part of the learning process. I welcome all suggestions and hope that each of you finds a way to involve yourself at Eliot.
I look forward to meeting every one of you as the year progresses. It is my hope that we can form a productive and meaningful partnership as we get to know one another over the year.
